Does school prepare youth for the real world?

School/College/University’s education doesn’t deal with real world issues. Skills required im real life aren’t the part of curriculum and there is a difference in what kids learn in school and what is required later in life. Subjects and topics of traditional course should not be neglected but teachers should be able to ask class how will we apply this lesson in real life.

Technology is used in a effective way in globally connected world. Thi question always comes in mind, are we making our young generation getting prepared for future?

We need to adorned our youngsters with positive attitudes, vision, values, skills, curiosity, adaption, creative skills, critical thinking, teamwork, compromise, solutions for problems, flexibility, global and traditional awareness, Information literacy, leadership, citizen literacy, citizenship, expertise in verbal and written communication, social responsibility, technical education, and social skills. Now question is do our school curriculum delivers all these? Are teachers capable of dealing with these important issues?

Our current modified educational system is dysfunctional in this regard. There are many of life lessons which are not been taught at schools. Teachers should be allowed to promote creative skills in students so that they encourage there curious nature and willingness to learn. In my opinion, education should not be limited to the system where students sit in row and column in traditional manners “sit and listen teaching”. Students are brain washed in limited boundaries that ood grades are important for a successful life. It causes tragic results like, depression, lots of stress, cheating behavior, shortcuts and stay awake till late night is common. Canada already felt the chaos. Ontario started a plan to teach financial skills to kids.

Current educational system gives education on basic needs however most of the curriculum don’t apply in real world. Education should focus on passion, skill or finding a purpose but current scenario don’t entertain much. Education goes beyond the classroom’s walls. A  common circle is high school, college & university job which most of us circles around without asking that why it’s like this. Why we are not allowed to decide that what we want to be or what we want to achieve? Instead, in Pakistan, parents are the one who decides profession.

They want there children to be doctor, engineer, government employee, bureaucrats or lawyers. Children got tell that they have to go to college and get straight As to be successful. Most of students don’t even know that What they want to be. There is no importance of education if you don’t get real passion. I’m not against school/college/University’s education. They provide chances of deciding between right and wrong but the question is still there, if current education system getting young generation ready for real world.

Time is changing continually and young generation needs to focus more on learning skills rather than being a book worm. After all, education is about program. Modern education is turning kids into selected scale where grades, jobs, good income, house and big cars are considered as success. We are making our young generation slaves of paycheck, where they have to act on 9-5 tradition and much more. I strongly advise that schools should start a class or a topic where they encourage students to find their true passion.

Google, Apple, IBM, Starbucks, Whole Foods and other high standard companies now don’t require college degree from employers anymore. They reach out to those who who have professional skills regarding to coding boot camp or industry. College degree is not the sign of future success in field. Rather than that, these big names focus on previous work experience and real industry.

Due to internet boom, many opportunities popped up. Singapore removed examination grades saying that kids are not in the competition.

Right moment to grab right opportunities is in our own hands. Online learning can make us expert. Whatever we learn by our experience, we can use for others training. This can happen by the right use of social media. Where right mentorship can change many lives. Writer and physiology expert DR. Angela Lee Duckworth says that patience can determine success. In her famous TED talk she explained that, “Grit is passion and perseverance for long-term goals”. Grit can’t be learn in college.
